  • Is there an approval for spacers?

    No. The properties of spacers are regulated by DIN 1045. The DIN also refers to the “Spacers” bulletin, edition 07/2002, published by the German Concrete Association.

  • How many spacers do I need to install?

    The exact number really depends on what is being installed. More information can be found in the bulletin produced by the German Concrete Association entitled “Concrete covering and reinforcement”, issue 07/2002. As a rough guide, use the following rule of thumb: around four to five units are needed per square meter. If the spacers are linear, the axial distance for reinforcing rods up to 14 mm is 50 cm. From a diameter of 16 mm upwards, the distance is 70 cm.

  • When should concrete spacers be used?

    Concrete spacers should be used if the concrete surface needs to satisfy special requirements, such as impermeability to water, or resistance to UV light, frost, thawing, and temperatures. Before construction begins, the planner and contracting firm should therefore carefully define the required properties of the concrete surface.

  • Is the use of special spacers required for concrete constructions around drinking water?

    For constructions around drinking water, only materials that have been tested and proven to be harmless may be used. This also applies to the spacers integrated into the concrete. For this reason, only cement-bonded spacers are generally used.

  • What compressive strength do concrete spacers have?

    For standard concrete spacers, the compressive strength of the concrete is around 30 to 35 N/mm2 (cube compressive strength). For practical applications, however, the actual load-bearing capacity of a spacer counts, and this depends on its shape and size. The load-bearing capacity is determined according to the tests set out in the DBV bulletin entitled “Spacers”.

  • Do plastic spacers impair the fire resistance duration of concrete constructions?

    No. As the “Spacers” bulletin from the German Concrete Association will confirm, the installation of plastic spacers does not reduce the fire resistance duration. This is explained by the proportionally small mass of the spacers relative to the overall concrete surface.

  • Is there an approval for rebending connectors?

    Rebending connectors do not require approval. Their use is regulated by DIN 1045 and by the bulletin entitled “Rebending of concrete steel and requirements with regard to steel cases”, issued by the German Concrete Association.

  • Which diameters do you supply rebending connectors for?

    Rebending connectors are manufactured in diameters of 8 and 12 mm. Larger diameters are available on request, but only in special designs.
